The Pottery opens in Saluda
Published 11:57 am Wednesday, June 3, 2015
After years of creating his pieces and offering them through galleries and gift shops, local potter Doc Welty has opened a working studio and gallery in downtown Saluda. Functional ceramics from coffee cups to garden urns are displayed at the new location at 50 East Main Street. “The Pottery” will also offer the work of selected regional potters, as well as other crafts.
A wide variety of pieces are available at The Pottery, and custom orders for a unique item can be satisfied, also. Later in the year, there are plans to open shows of area potters and their latest work. A limited number of lessons will also be offered in the fall.
A member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, Piedmont Craftsmen, Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild and Carolina Claymatters, Doc Welty has been working in pottery for more than 30 years and is excited to be part of the arts in Saluda where he can be found carrying on the Carolina pottery tradition one piece at a time. More information is available online at ThePotterySaluda.com or by calling 828-713-5719.
