The Landrum Area Business Association, in cooperation with the Landrum Fire Department, has announced plans for a city wide celebration of food and music on Saturday, June 20. The event will feature a Battle of the Bands concert, taking place at the Landrum Depot on Trade Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Details of the event were announced Tuesday, June 2 at LABA’s monthly meeting.
The depot will feature five bands ranging from classic rock to blues and bluegrass. On the set list, in order of appearance, are local bands Dog Whistle, Jim Peterman Band, Special Edition, Project X and Mudlick. The participating bands will be judged by a panel of five local community members.
Linda Howard, LABA’s vice president, urged businesses in the downtown area to have sidewalk sales and demos to encourage attendees to walk the entire area. There will be over a half-mile stretch of free family-oriented music and attractions, according to Caitlin Martin, Landrum’s city administrator.
The downtown area will feature a Boston Butt cook-off at Foothills Amish Furniture, beer garden at the Hare and Hound, and cookout at Landrum Hardware just to name a few. Additionally, there will be live music throughout downtown in restaurants and shops.
The weekly farmers market on Trade Avenue will be accompanied by the Old Time String Band from 8 a.m. to noon, along with businesses which are not located in the downtown area setting up booths for information and giveaways.
The Battle of the Bands event kicks off the Music at the Tracks series in Landrum, with future dates of July 18 and August 15. Funding was provided by the Polk County Community Foundation, which has been supporting the Landrum and Polk County areas with grants and scholarships for over 40 years.
“This is a great opportunity to bring family and community together to introduce or re-introduce the town of Landrum and what it has to offer,” said Howard.
