Third grade teacher Melissa Gillespie joins with her students as artist-in-residence, Sonya Monts, leads the class in dance inspirations. In this snapshot, the third graders were learning how Native Americans inspired modern dancer and choreographer, Martha Graham. Saluda Elementary School was awarded a private, educational arts grant to “Dance About Anything.”  Dance teaching artist, Sonya Monts, is completing the 12-week grant project with all PreK-5th grade students this semester. Students will be creating dance stories based on a topic of study selected from their grade level mathematics, social studies or science curriculum to share with students, parents and community members on March 31 and April 2.
