The Landrum Area Business Association held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 6 with its recently elected board of directors. President Shawn Evans’ new board  includes Linda Howard of Southern Delights as treasurer, Todd Cox of Sissy Boutique as vice president, and Autumn Stott as secretary.

With more than 20 in attendance the board discussed a variety of issues including the formation of a marketing subcommittee to meet Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7:15 p.m. at Southern Delights. The purpose of the committee meeting will be to brainstorm ideas for a marketing plan for the city.

The groups also heard a status report on the City of Landrum’s efforts to construct public restrooms, from City Administrator Caitlin Cothran. Only one contractor has replied to the city’s request for a proposal to build restrooms onto the City Hall building.

Bob Walker, the District 5 representative to Spartanburg County Council, spoke on the need for construction on the bridge over Interstate 26 at Exit 1, saying that the bridge needed to be four lanes with a traffic light, and raised. He indicated there was no schedule yet for this project. Walker also detailed recently completed privately funded efforts to landscape the areas along the interstate near the S.C. Welcome Center.

The next LABA meeting will be Feb. 3 at 8:30 a.m. in city council chambers, 100 N. Shamrock Ave.
