Ross Pierce

Ross Pierce, 94, of Tryon, N.C. joined our Lord Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 in St.
Luke’s Hospital, Columbus, N.C.
Born in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Charles D. and Mary Elizabeth
Brewer Pierce. He started little league baseball in Birmingham, Mich. Mr. Pierce was
a graduate of Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He studied electrical
engineering at the University of Tennessee before entering WWII serving in the
Royal Canadian Air Force and the U.S. Naval Air Force. Mr. Pierce was an avid
sportsman.
He was a member of the Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills Chamber of Commerce,
an electrical contractor and donated the lighting at Shain Park. He moved to Tryon,
N.C. in 1980. His family had a horse farm in Tryon and they visited often. He and his
wife spent a lot of time in Key Biscayne, Fla. Mr. Pierce was loved by all and will be
dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Carolyn Watkins Pierce; three sons, Ross Pierce of
Las Vegas, Nev., Brian Pierce of Rutherfordton, N.C. and Carl Pierce of Tryon, N.C.;
two daughters, Cathie Lossiah of Cherokee, N.C. and Denise Pierce of Columbus, N.C.
Also surviving are four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce
Pierce.
