IPDC held annual Weatherization Day in Columbus

Isothermal Planning and Development Commission (IPDC) held its annual Weatherization Day on Thursday, Oct. 30 at the home of Angela Levi, of Columbus.
Work done at Levi’s home included installing a vapor barrier in the basement.
The North Carolina Weatherization Program provides weatherization services to low-income homeowners and renters. The goal of the program is to create a safe, energy efficient and comfortable home environment for the families served. Eligibility is based on federal poverty income guidelines with priority given to the elderly, disabled and families with small children.
Typical services include:
• insulating attics, walls, floors and pipes
• sealing and insulating ducts
• installing a smart thermostat
• replacing existing lighting with energy efficient bulbs
• performing tune-ups and repairs to heating and cooling systems
• improving health and safety conditions by addressing carbon monoxide levels and combustion safety
• preventing drafts by sealing air leaks from doors and windows
