Robert Kenneth Weiner, 85, of Tryon, N.C. died Monday, August 11, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Columbus, N.C.
Born November 9, 1928 in Mt. Clemens, MI, he was the son of the late Nathan and Beatrice Coffin Weiner. He was the widower of Jean M. Weiner who died in 2005. Bob was a Veteran having served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He retired as a manager from AT&T after 35 years of service in l984. In Detroit, Bob was a member of the Hurlbut Avenue Baptist Church and Detroit Lodge #2 F&AM. In New Providence, NJ he was President and Captain of the New Providence Rescue Squad.
Locally Bob was a past President of the Kiwanis Club of Tryon, a member of St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Post #250 and the Second Wind Hall of Fame and served as a Vice President of the Tryon Swim Club
Surviving are children Janet Fonda of Parsippany, NJ, Kenneth Weiner of Levittown, Penn., Karen Dankosky (Denis) of Cranford, NJ, Donald Weiner (Vicki) of Lafayette, CO and R. Douglas Weiner of Cumming, Ga, and Companion and dear friend Rosemary Pleune of Tryon, N.C. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeff Fonda, William Weiner, Teresa Dankosky, Benjamin Weiner, Zachary Weiner, Sara Dankosky, Casey Weiner, Thomas Sebelle and Marissa Dankosky.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Rev Robert Barrows officiating.
Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
