Landrum High School recently began their two-week band camp, which has 44 members, 11 of which are in their first year.
Band camp is a full day from 8:30 – 4:30 led by ‘Doc’ Bridwell, who has been the Band Director for 22 years, and Jessica Pym, Assistant Band Director.
The typical day starts with learning how to march, play music and go through new routines in the music room and parking lot in front of a metal observation tower. Band members count and drill while simulating instruments, instructors Pym, Natasha Mills and Color Guard Instructor Kaitlyn Seay move the group with encouragement from the ground and observation tower.
Appalachian Folk music connected with a story, composed by Bridwell is this year’s theme for competitions and music show at football games.
“I’m extremely proud of the work this group has done”, Pym said
