Tryon non-profit arts organizations join forces for October event

Tryon Arts and Crafts School is issuing invitations to all Tryon-based non-profit arts organizations to join them for a “Celebration of the Arts” on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Tryon Arts and Craft School’s Harmon Field location. This event is intended to be a showcase of all that the Tryon Arts community has to offer: an opportunity for the public to “sample” a little bit of each organization’s artwork, classes or performances. Local for-profit galleries and bookshops will also be offered an opportunity to participate in this event.
In the past, Tryon Arts and Crafts School has produced an arts festival at this location in October, but with so many great festivals and events already being produced in Tryon, TACS felt it was time to try something new – a joint event that could benefit all of the arts organizations. TACS Executive Director Susan Buser says: “We have received a very positive response to this idea from the other arts organizations’ leaders, as well as from city leaders. It seems that this is just the right time to try this.”
The event will run all day Saturday, and is expected to feature displays, exhibitions of art, poetry readings and musical and theatrical performances. Tryon Arts and Crafts School will have instructors providing mini-workshops in each of their studios in silversmithing, glassworking, woodworking, weaving, pottery and blacksmithing.
Tryon Arts and Crafts School has applied for a GrassRoots sub-grant from the Tryon Fine Arts Center to help fund this event. Additional funding will come from sponsorships and possibly a raffle of a few large items.
