Freddie Harris

Frederick Thomas Benjamin “FTB” Harris, 95, of 619 Laurel Lake Drive, Columbus, N.C. died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Tryon Estates, Columbus, N.C.
Born in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Frederick and Hattie Louise Brittingham Harris. FTB was first married to Olive Benedict Harris who died in 2000 and later to Hazel Ward Harris who died January 19, 2014. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
Freddie was a sales representative, beginning his career with Metropolitan Life Insurance, Salisbury, Md. and later representing Beacon Steel Products Company, selling poultry equipment supplies traveling the Southeast, which brought him to Shelby, N.C.
He and his wife moved to Polk County in l992 coming to Tryon Estates. FTB was the District Governor of the Lions Club in the l980’s and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Shelby, N.C. He was a member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, N.C.
Surviving are: a daughter, Anita H. Taft (Dr. Donald) of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Rev. C. T. Harris (Jane) of Charlotte, N.C. and 5 grandchildren; Lisa Wall, Kimberly Martin, William Harris, Sabrina Southards & Mark Susie. Also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Louise Walls and a brother Donald Edward Harris.
A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 in the auditorium of Tryon, Estates, Columbus, N.C. with Rev. Tim Willis officiating.
Burial will be private in the Cleveland Memorial Park, Shelby, N.C.

The family wishes to thank Carol Walker, his personal caregiver, for her faithful and compassionate care for many years. Also, thanks to the staff of Tryon Estates and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills all of whom Freddie loved.
