Howell to receive First Annual Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar award

The Board of Directors for the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation, Inc., is pleased to announce the first recipient of the 2014 Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar Award This $4,000 renewable scholarship is awarded to a Polk County High School student who is a strong, well-rounded student who excels in a specific area of study or who demonstrates talent in a specific area such as fine arts education, science education, career education, healthcare or environmental education. The student demonstrates a commitment to helping others and participates in school clubs and extracurricular activities. The scholarship is awarded by the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation and is administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.
Madeline Howell is an honor student at Polk County High. She serves as Key Club President and Photography Club Vice President. Madeline was a cheerleader for four years and was selected as captain this past year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the News Team, Climb (hiking club) and Speak (creative writing club). Howell was crowned Miss Wolverine in 2011. She works at Side Street Pizza and volunteers in the Grace Foothills’ Sunday School Program. Her hobbies include drawing, reading and spending time with family and friends. Howell plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall and pursue a career in Dentistry. She is the daughter of Billy Howell of Landrum and Dennis and Spring Bishop of Mill Spring.
