The Columbus Fabulous 4th Festival is gearing up to be another great event. The 2014 festival will celebrate the 52nd year the event has occurred in the Town of Columbus.
The 4th of July committee has met several times to plan and prepare for the event. The event will run from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. with fireworks concluding the festival at 9:45 p.m. The music for the Fabulous 4th will be on Mills Street across from the Polk County Courthouse and beside Stearns Park. The music kicks off at 10 a.m. with the Star Spangled Banner. The morning music and events will center on children’s activities.
In prior years, Columbus hosted Dance Dynamics from Tryon and Adawehi children’s Drum Group. Veterans will take the stage with activities from 12 – 2 p.m. The committee’s veteran liaison is contacting local groups to line up events and information of special interest to veterans.
The committee continues to work with bands and performers to generate a lineup for the afternoon and evening time slots (2 – 9 p.m.). The goal is to offer a broad selection of local and regional bands and groups. If you or your band are interested in performing at the Fabulous 4th Festival, contact the Columbus Town Hall at 828-894-8236.
The Columbus Town Council has committed to provide the fireworks for this year’s event, but still seeks donations and sponsors for the remainder of the festival. For more information regarding sponsorship, contact Columbus Town Hall at 828-894-8236. A rain date of Saturday, July 12 has been set for the festival, in the event of weather that prevents the full day’s activities from occurring.
