Saluda Elementary School third-grade students in Melissa Gillespie and Cari Maneen’s class are learning about how communities change over time as part of their social studies curriculum.
Gillespie said her class began that study with Saluda because it’s their community.
On Tuesday, March 18 members of the class visited M. A. Pace General Store, which was founded in 1899, and still resides in the same Main Street location.
While some of the merchandise has changed, the facility still functions as a real general store, using the same cash register since 1913.
Tangie Morgan, daughter of storeowners Leon and Nancy Morgan, pictured at right, shows the register to eager students.
