Mrs. Weddle, 81, of Charlotte, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, after a brief stay at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Karen W. Henderson, and son-in-law, W. Stevenson Henderson of Tryon, NC.
Born Dec. 9, 1932, in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Beresford Bernard Evans and Ruth Royster Wilson.
During her teenage years she had her own radio show on WBBO Radio in Forest City singing country music.
Later she worked as a secretary for a number of corporations and the U.S. Government. She married Clyde L. Weddle in 1964 and worked as a secretary for their mobile home moving business, Royster and Weddle. After the business was sold in 1980, she and Clyde became active in the Mecklenburg Amateur Radio Society and the Shelby Amateur Radio Club.
Mary was an Extra Class ham radio operator with the call WC4T. She and Clyde also gave volunteer amateur radio exams for the FCC, as the directors of the Charlotte V.E.C., which was dissolved in 1995.
She was also an assistant director of the Roanoke Division of the Amateur Radio Relay League. Following Clyde’s death in 1997, Mary joined the Bible Presbyterian Church and was an active member until her death.
She was well loved by her church, her community, and the amateur radio operators who knew her.
The family received friends Monday at the Bible Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Randy Ardis officiating.
Interment followed in Gethsemane Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Bible Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, 6237 Rumple Road, Charlotte, NC, 28262.
