Columbus police respond to 373 calls in January

The Columbus Police Department responded to 373 calls in January 2014.
Of those calls, 57 involved suspicious vehicles, 16 involved alarms and 12 involved wrecks. Officers assisted stranded motorists on 16 calls and assisted fire and emergency medical services on 21 calls.
One domestic call two larceny calls, and four disturbance calls occurred, in addition to three involuntary commitments and eight reports of suspicious persons.
In 58 incidents, individuals called to talk with an officer.
Police made 13 arrests, including two felony arrests. They made seven DWI arrests and also arrested four fugitives.
Of the 143 traffic and criminal charges filed in January, 10 involved no operators license and one involved driving while license revoked.
Twenty drug charges, 11 uninsured motorist charges, 12 careless and reckless driving, and four open containers were issued by police. Officers issued 44 speeding citations.
Police received 144 total training hours in subjects such as intoximeter recertification, drug recognition expert school, traffic law update, and introduction to criminal interdiction.
Officers received State Bureau of Investigation lab training and attended the NC Governors Highway Safety Program Symposium.
