A reserve officer with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was terminated on Monday, Feb. 17 after being arrested by the Spindale Police Department for driving while impaired, according to the sheriff’s office.
John Friday, 23, of Spindale was arrested and charged around 3 a.m. Sunday after being stopped for speeding in Spindale. According to reports, Friday admitted to drinking 8-10 beers prior to driving his Ford Mustang. Friday reportedly blew a 0.14 on the breathalyzer, which is almost twice the limit of 0.08 in North Carolina.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office terminated Friday on Monday morning, Feb. 17.
Friday had just completed law enforcement training and had worked as a reserve for the sheriff’s office for about a year. He had not been used recently by the sheriff’s office.
Reserves are employed by the sheriff’s office on an as needed basis so officers can keep their certifications valid.
