Wedding fireworks may sparkle when David Thompson celebrates a wedding on March 1, 2014 in Landrum. Thompson requested permission for a bonfire and fireworks.
At its meeting Jan. 14, Landrum City Council decided to give a tentative go-ahead for the plans.
City administrator Caitlin Martin expressed concern that the request could set a precedent for many people to request variances for future events, but after contemplation, the council decided that as long as the display posed no trouble to neighbors, it could have approval if it met all codes and regulations.
Council members also suggested a 10 p.m. end time for the display to ensure compliance with noise ordinances.
