Columbus Fire Dept. responds to 113 calls in the month of Dec.

In the month of December, the Columbus Fire Department responded to 113 calls for a total of 195 hours and 23 minutes of firefighter hour utilization, Fire Chief Tony Priester reported Jan. 16 to the Columbus Town Council.
The greatest number of calls occurred for emergency medical needs, at 47, and stranded motorist/lock out, at 13. Emergency medical calls took the most time all together, at 66 hours, 15 minutes, and four motor vehicles with injuries resulted in 22 hours and 8 minutes of firefighter time.
Four motor vehicles with no injuries consumed four hours and 59 minutes of firefighter time. One structure fire took 17 firefighter hours.
The department responded to two arcing electrical equipment, one controlled burn, two smoke investigations, two vehicle fires, one report of vehicle fire with no fire present, and four D and C (dispatched and canceled) fire alarm AA calls. They did one animal rescue and two aircraft standbys. Firefighters responded to one confined chimney fire and assisted law enforcement and the department of transportation on two calls.
The firefighters also responded to four brush, woods, and grass fires, two D and C vehicle fires, and one D and C vehicle fire AA. They responded to seven smoke detectors with no fire and one alarm activation AA with no fire.
The department also completed 238 hours and 30 minutes in training hours.
