Carolyn Flynn Brady passed away on Jan. 12, 2014 in Tryon after a brief illness.

She was born in Columbus on Sept. 20, 1925, and was the first child of Broadus Bryan Flynn and Myrtle “Jane” Shields Flynn.
A graduate of Tryon High School and Furman University in Greenville, S.C., she was a teacher of home economics at Tryon and Mill Spring High Schools before becoming a special education teacher in the Polk County School system, where she worked until retiring.
As the wife of architect Holland Brady she had a keen interest in architecture and interior design. She was also a highly skilled tailor, designing and making clothes for herself as well as her daughter and granddaughters.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling to notable historical, architectural and cultural sites in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Carolyn lived her entire life in Polk County and she and her family were members of Tryon Congregational Church, where, for many years, she created floral arrangements for special events and receptions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Holland Brady Jr.; her parents; her sister, Mary Flynn Moore; her brother, Ligon Flynn; and her nephew, Brian Moore.
She is survived by her son, Marc Brady; and her daughter, Alison Stahelin; her brother, Shields Flynn and his wife, Frances; her brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and June Brady; her brother-in-law, George Thomson Moore; her sister-in-law, Susan Flynn; her grandchildren, Carolyn Livingston, Patrick Brannon and Sara Brannon; her great-grandson Mickel Livingston; and numerous nephews, nieces and their children.
A service of commemoration will be held at the Tryon Congregational Church at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014.
