Grant Fredrick Thomas

Grant Fredrick Thomas, 85, of Columbus passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013 at his home.
Born Feb. 24, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wis., he was the son of the late Kenneth and Gladys Thomas. He was the widower of Dolores Thomas who died in l993.
An avid golfer, he moved to Polk County in 1990 from Pittsburgh, Pa.
Grant was a member of Red Fox Country Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for a number of years. He was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Tryon, where he had served as an usher for many years.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane Torres (George) of Dekalb, Ill.; son, David Thomas (Lynnann Nysted-Thomas) of Sugar Camp, Wis. and companion Marjean Monahan of Spartanburg, S.C. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jennifer, Christina, Rachel, Andy and Julie; as well as two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Carmen.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 in the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Tryon, with Father Mickey Mugan officiating.
