Landrum seeks safe spot for funds

Landrum City Council has started contemplating where to put $450,000; it’s sitting in an account gaining scant interest right now, and they want to figure out a way to invest so that the money will make money, but the account will have to be fluid, so they can draw upon the funds for the city’s needs.
“When the city sold Spartanburg water, we put the money into a CD,” explained City Administrator Caitlin Martin. “We put it into a CD with Edward Jones, but now they’re not allowed to handle transactions of that type any longer.”
Local banks also have restrictions, and larger firms often charge when money’s needed for various things, but the Council’s determined to find a better fit for their funds, Martin said.
