St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Eucharistic Procession Oct. 25

Published 8:35 pm Tuesday, October 22, 2013

On the evening of Oct. 25 at dusk, the traffic in downtown Tryon will pause, and for the third year, a solemn procession will travel on foot from Rogers park to the grounds of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Laurel Ave.

The purpose is to bring awareness to the faith and provide an opportunity for those who may have never seen a Catholic procession.

This is a very traditional display of adoration to the Eucharist, and will include parishioners holding candles, Schola Choir singing throughout the duration, communicants in their splendid dress, altar boys carrying incense and torches, the Knights of Columbus, (the oldest community service organization in existence) and of course a traditional decorated donkey cart, holding the statue of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the parish.

Fr. John Eckert will lead the procession holding the consecrated Host, and an actual relic of St. John the Baptist, which is normally housed in the Church.

All are welcome to come and watch, join in and walk to the church, where refreshments will be offered.

Those interested can tour the recently renovated parish, complete with a beautifully hand carved marble alter and tabernacle and detailed wood work done in Byzantine style.

For more information, call the church at 828-859-9574, or visit the Church website at www.stjohntryon.com and Facebook page.
