Ann Goodheart and Mary Ann Merrill are shown with Sue Watson, Tryon Kiwanis Club president, after Merrill made a presentation on the Service Animal Project (SAP) at the club meeting Aug. 21. Labrador “Socks,” who was in the SAP, tagged along and was a hit with Kiwanis members. Founded in March 2012 by three volunteers with Foothills Humane Society, SAP helps bring together shelter animals with wounded military members. Donations can be made to this project by mailing a check payable to “FHS Service Animal Project” to P.O. Box 126, Tryon, NC 28782. (photo submitted by Lynn Montgomery)
