Peter Arthur Hastings, 77, of Lakeshore Dr., Landrum died Friday, August 9, 2013 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C.

Born in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of the late Wallace H. and Elcye Beatrice Bird Hastings.  Peter received his BA from the University of Florida in l958 and an MA from the University of Illinois in l983.  His professional life was spent as an interior designer and later he retired in l996 as a  chemical dependency therapist in Peoria, Ill.  Mr. Hastings moved to the area in 2003 coming from the Low Country of South Carolina and Illinois.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Boardman Hastings of the home; two daughters, Heather Swanburg of Mokena, Ill. and Paige Knight (Matt) of Houston, Texas; four step-sons, Henry Gregory of Vancouver, BC; Gavin Gregory of Seattle, Wash.; Luke Gregory of Denver, Colo. and Andy Gregory of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Wallace H.  Hastings, Jr. of Elmhurst, Ill. and 7 grandchildren and four step granddaughters. Peter was preceded in death by a son, Peter H. Hastings,  who died in 2005.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 901 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
