Bennett Edwin Hinsdale Jr. 103, died December 7, 2012 at Rose Crest Retirement Center of Inman, S.C.

Born April 2, 1909 he was a native and resident of the Green Creek community of Polk County and was a son of the late Bennett Edwin and Elizabeth Barnett Hinsdale. He was the widower of Gladys Greene Hinsdale, who died in 2000.

Mr. Hinsdale was retired from the United States Department of Agriculture as County Office Manager of Farm Service for Polk County.

He was a faithful and dedicated worker for his church, The Mill Creek Church of the Brethren where he was a member, Life Deacon and served as church moderator for 57 years.

He loved his community, serving as a former trustee of St. Luke’s Hospital in Tryon and of the Head Memorial Clinic in Green Creek.

He was a member of the Green Creek Ruritan Club having obtained 57 years perfect attendance. He also served many years as a member and chairman of the Polk County Board of Education and served countless years as precinct judge and poll worker in general elections. During WWII, he served on the War Board for Polk County.
