Tryon Estates will host two American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) driver safety programs this week.
The first, a four-hour driver safety classroom refresher course, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The course is open to the public at a nominal fee, discounted for AARP members. Normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time associated with aging will be discussed. Participants review rules of the road with emphasis on eight driving strategies. Discounts on car insurance may be available to those competing the course.
The second program, a “Carfit” event, will be held Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Trained technicicans will work with drivers to ensure they properly “fit” in their personal vehicles, using a professionally developed 12-point checklist to make adjustments and offer suggestions that will improve safety behind the steering wheel.
Both events will be held in the administrative building at Tryon Estates, 617 Laurel Lake Drive in Columbus.
