The national Girl Scouts organization is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012. Polk County has a rich history of scouting. During the 75th anniversary year, a time capsule was buried at the Polk County courthouse. Shown here are Carol Morton, Dollie-Brooke Reid and Jessi Bromwell on March 12, 1987, when the time capsule was buried. What kind of legacy did the former generation of Girl Scouts leave for girls today? Find out on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m., when the time capsule is scheduled to be opened. All current and former Girl Scouts are invited to participate in the time capsule ceremony. (photo submitted by Amber Thompson)
