Glassy Mountain Fire Department (GMFD) recently announced that David Hindman and Bobby Schleier have joined
the department as captains. Both Hindman and Schleier began their firefighting efforts as junior firefighter members.
Hindman has served with Durbin Creek and Inman Community fire departments and served with the Boiling Springs Fire Department. Prior to joining GMFD, he served as a sergeant with the Taylors Fire Department. Hindman, who is pursuing an associate degree in business management with a concentration in fire service management, has completed leadership training and is a Fire Officer 2. He has been assigned as Battalion A Captain. Hindman lives in Inman.
Schleier was part of the GMFD Explorers when he was 14 years of age and received his fire training at GMFD before joining the staff at Boiling Springs Fire Department. After eight years, he has returned to GMFD to serve as Battalion B Captain. Schleier’s interest is in technical rescue situations, including high angle and water rescues. He is also trained as a Haz-Mat technician. Schleier and his wife live in Taylors.
“We are always in need of more volunteer firefighters and first responders to keep our community safe,” Chief Bryan G. Riebe said. “We also need to further develop our auxiliary of citizens to provide support for the district and we can offer other job opportunities than fighting fires – we can use mechanics, electricians, handypersons, painters carpenters, etc.” For more information on how to become part of the GMFD team, contact 864-895-4306 or visit www.gmfd.net.
