Robert ‘Bob’ William Thomas

Robert “Bob” William Thomas, 85, of Laurel Lake Dr., Tryon Estates, Columbus, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 in Tryon Estates Medical Facility, Columbus.
Born in Flint, Mich., he was the son of the late Victor George and May Chambers Thomas. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and moved to Polk County in 1985 from Pittsburgh, Penn. Mr. Thomas was an active member of the Tryon Little Theater for many years. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Tryon and was responsible for creating the plaques for the Stations of the Cross in the sanctuary.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia J. Thomas; two sons, James M. Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa and Lawrence “Larry” L. Thomas of Morgantown, W.V.; one daughter, Elizabeth T. Holzheimer of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. April 12 in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon, with The Very Rev. Dr. Michael Doty officiating.
