When the dust settled on the inning, the Tigers had scored five runs, three of those were unearned.
The Tigers added one more run in the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk.
The Cardinals went into the bottom of the seventh inning down 6-1, but had no surrender in them. Fincher got things started with one out with a single. Caleb Bruce followed with a double to centerfield. Fincher scored on a groundout by Jon Humphries. Bruce scored on a throwing error by Byer to first base on a Thomas Rabatie ground ball. Gus Wofford drove in Rabatie on a two-out double. Kaleb Kuykendall reached base on a chopper to second base. With two outs and two runners on, Bishop hit a slow grounder to short stop and the catcher slid into first base, but couldn’t beat out Tavin Pratt’s throw.
“That showed heart and character,” Landrum Coach Ray McCallister said.
The final inning really showed the resolve in his players, McCallister said, despite not getting the victory on Thursday night.
“We really battled back,” he said. “We put ourselves in a position to win. I told our kids if you keep battling like that, good things will happen.”
Landrum went on to beat Greenville Tech 9-1 Friday, March 30.
