Gallery shows off 10 Saluda artists

Skyuka Gallery has been doing very well since it opened a little over a year ago, Nelson said. In their inaugural year Nelson and her co-owner artist husband, Richard, hosted eight shows and a concert; a fundraising silent auction; and three special events, including a lecture by local art historian and author Michael McCue. They also started and participated in five Tryon Gallery Trots and have scheduled six more for 2012. As their clientele grows, they hope to bring in more nationally known artists’ work to offer to their collectors.

“With the amount of galleries in downtown Tryon, we knew right away that we would have to set ourselves apart, and be sure to not step on any toes, as many of the other galleries in town are owned by our friends,” said Nelson. “We quickly honed in on what Rich does – original fine art with a focus on traditionalism and no reproductions.”
Staying true to their vision, the couple focuses on offering one-of-a-kind pieces in a warm and peaceful environment. They said they don’t want to pressure anyone to make a purchase and they believe artwork is to be enjoyed and will speak for itself and move you to want to buy it.
“One should never regret a purchase of original artwork,” said Nelson.
“Skyuka Fine Art is special because of the energy and creative imagination of Kim and Rich Nelson and their desire to make the gallery a successful force in the Polk County art scene,” said Jameson.
