Ella Lee Arledge

Ella Lee Arledge, 98, of Hendersonville, died on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at Carolina Village Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, she was born in Transylvania County on Feb. 23, 1913 to the late Seaton Yates and Tullulah Lindsay Yates. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Keith Arledge, who died July 13, 2000; her brother, Marvin Yates, and her sister, Lucille Logue.
She graduated from Tryon High School before going on to Meredith College, receiving her teaching degree in 1934. She began her teaching career in the early 1940s in the regular classroom and as a music teacher as well. She also taught with the Hendersonville City Schools as a librarian until her retirement in the early 1960s. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hendersonville where she was involved in countless activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Arledge Gruehn, and her husband, Charles, of Marietta, Ga.; her two grandsons, Chris Gruehn and his wife, Allison, of Marietta, Ga., Brad Gruehn and his wife, Alexis, of Sterling, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Connor and Evan Gruehn of Sterling, Va. and Allen and Cate Gruehn of Marietta, Ga.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 at Shepherd Memorial Park’s Mausoleum Chapel, with Reverend Wally Shamburger officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends following the service.
