Tinkler to perform in one-man show ‘SantaLand Diaries’

Back by popular demand, Chris Tinkler is Crumpet the elf in David Sedaris’ wacky Christmas spoof,
“SantaLand Diaries,” Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Sunnydale on S. Trade St. in Tryon.
The one-man play is the centerpiece of the Upstairs Artspace (UA) holiday fundraiser, “A Very Sedaris Christmas,” which will also feature food catered by Tryon favorite Pat Strother, using recipes from “I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence,” a new cookbook by David’s sister, Amy Sedaris.
Sedaris’ “SantaLand Diaries” has been an NPR holiday favorite for years. Tinkler first brought it to life in Tryon in 2004, with two sold-out performances at the Upstairs.
In this nostalgic, irreverent holiday tale, Sedaris recounts the misadventures of a disenchanted and surly Macy’s department store elf.
Amy Sedaris is best known for her hit series “Strangers with Candy” on Comedy Central. Her new cookbook features advice for the hostess, such as “a good tip is to fill your medicine cabinet with marbles. Nothing announces a nosy guest better than an avalanche of marbles hitting a porcelain sink.“
Tickets are available at the Upstairs Artspace and Tryon House. Seating is limited.
