CROP Walk

To the Editor:
I have seen people with their hands outreached, asking for change. I have seen ragged and homeless, that appear to be in another realm traveling beside the everyday world. I have seen working poor, people who have one or more jobs that pay so little that they struggle to make ends meet. I always wonder why?
We can travel to the moon. We have technology that can produce great abundance of food and clothing, why in this great nation of ours is there hunger? I recall a passage in a book that is very dear to me:
Matthew 25:35-40: “When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me, and when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear. When I was sick, you took care of me, and when I was in jail, you visited me.
“Then the ones who pleased the Lord will ask, ‘When did we give you something to eat or drink? When did we welcome you as a stranger or give you clothes to wear or visit you while you were sick or in jail?’ The king will answer, “Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me.”
Once a year people gather at Harmon Field to raise monies and awareness for those people who slip between the cracks. This year’s CROP Walk is scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6 at Harmon Field.
All of us would give most anything to a relative, a friend, even an acquaintance, but most of the need of this world seems faceless, easily forgotten in our day-to-day struggles with life.
Remember to feed your fellow travelers on this big blue ball we call Earth. Feed and care for those in need of food, water, shelter, compassion or just a little smile or a hug.
Remember your kindergarten teacher saying, “It’s nice to share”?
Walk in the CROP Walk. Volunteer at Outreach Ministry. Help a neighbor, or better yet help a stranger.
By helping and serving it blesses both the server and the one being served.
