Dorothy A. Phillips

Dorothy A. Phillips, originally from Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y., passed away on June 19, 2011 at the age of 89 in the company of family members and her beloved husband Roland (Bud) V. Phillips.
Dorothy graduated from Chattam College, Adelfi and Hofstra University. She was a member of: The League of Women Voters, Polk County Literacy Council, Democratic Committee, French Club and an avid supporter of Planned Parenthood. Dorothy was a teacher by trade and taught for 15 years in the Uniondale Public School system. She was an adventurous traveler and was fortunate to have the opportunity to live in Iran, Israel, Canada, France and Malaysia with her husband. During these years abroad, she continued teaching within the international or university system, providing all her students with a strong understanding of the English language, while absorbing herself in new cultures and languages.
Dorothy was an avid reader, tennis enthusiast and enjoyed a challenging game of duplicate bridge. She is survived by her husband, Roland; her children, Richard, Tom, Anne, Jean and Mary; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m.
