Piecing together our history with yours

To the Editor:
I have really enjoyed reading all of the history articles that the Tryon Daily Bulletin has included this past year.
It has been exciting to learn about our local past, people of the area and ways of life. It is so easy to forget and get caught up in the quickness of life; we forget to appreciate our past and teach the younger generations.
On Feb. 9, you ran an article about John B. Dill. I always knew my maternal grandmother’s family was from the Tigerville/Gowensville area and her maiden name was Dill.
After reading the article and calling my mother, she did a little family history sleuthing and learned that John Dill was her great-grandfather! And how special because the article ran on her birthday.
Family stories and pieces of information she never knew…what a wonderful and perfect gift for her. I look forward to more local history articles!
