Elizabeth Rose Mercer Kane

Elizabeth Rose Mercer Kane, age 43, of Anderson, S.C., passed away on Jan. 8, 2011 at CMC NorthEast in Concord, N.C.
Born in Gainesville, Fla., on May 18, 1967, she was the daughter of Dr. Gordon Edison Mercer and stepmother, Marcia Mercer of Franklin, N.C.; and mother, Myra Carpenter Slate of Albemarle, N.C., who survive.
She is also survived by her loving 12-year-old daughter, Samantha Wren Kane of Tryon; sisters, Lisa Mercer-Bianco of Easton, Pa. and Courtney Leonard of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, Gordon Edison Mercer III of The Dalles, Ore. Also surviving are nephews Bryce Hopkins and James and Benjamin Leonard.
She attended Albemarle City Schools and graduated from Smokey Mountain High School in Sylva, N.C. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University and master’s degree at Clemson University.
She was a reporter for The Dunn Daily Record in Dunn, N.C.; editor at Newberry Times in Newberry, S.C.; and editor at Honea Path Chronicle in Honea Path, S.C.
She also served as director of public relations in the department of entymology at Clemson University; manager of the Blue Ridge Mall in Hendersonville, N.C.; director of marketing with Advantage Health in Spartanburg, S.C., and did volunteer work at New Springs Church in Anderson, S.C.
Services were held Sunday, Jan. 16 in Albemarle, N.C.
