Jonathan Arnold Williams, 90, of Columbus died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC.
Born Dec. 19, 1919 in Polk County,&bsp; he was the son of the late John Norman and Hanna Arledge Williams. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was the husband of the late Ruth Edwards Williams who passed away in 1997. Mr. Williams was retired from the NCDOT where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Surviving are his son, Harold Williams (Bunny) of Columbus; daughter, Judith Morton of Columbus; and one sister, Margie Williams of Mill Spring. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Phillip Morton, Carole Gassaway and Nikki Williams; as well as two great-grandchildren. &bsp;
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at Midway Baptist Church, Columbus, with Rev. Gary Lockee and William Mills officiating.
Military rites will be held by the Polk County Burial Squad in Williams Cemetery, Columbus.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at his home; 160 Skyuka Mtn. Rd., Columbus, NC 28722.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
