Well, if you read this column you must love the outdoors. North Carolina Wildlife Commission has a photography contest each year and the winning photos will be published in there Januarys issue of Wildlife in North Carolina magazine, with the grand prize appearing on the cover. The photos also will be exhibited at the Museum of Natural Sciences and at other science museums and wildlife education centers across the state.

This month the UNC-TV special program North Carolina Lens will feature Greg Jenkins, editor of the national-award-winning monthly Wildlife in North Carolina magazine, and its annual photo contest. Also featured is Mike Dunn, a naturalist and nature photographer, who works as senior manager of outreach with the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences. Dunn explains what makes a good nature photograph, the characteristics of wildlife subjects and how you can take great photos.

The segment will be broadcast on June 24 at 9:30 p.m. and repeated June 27 at noon; July 11 at 10:30 p.m. and July 17 at 3:30 a.m. For additional information, go to www.unctv.org. &bsp;

This is our sixth annual photo competition and it has become quite the hallmark of the magazine, said Jenkins. Beautiful nature photos from North Carolina have inspired generations of people to be better stewards of our precious natural resources and encouraged people from around the nation and world to visit and photograph for themselves the wildlife and landscapes of the Mountains, Piedmont and Coastal Plain. This information came from N.C. Wildlife web page.

Did you know that the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education Center at Pisgah National Forest, on Highway 276 in Pisgah Forest next to the Bobby N. Setzer Fish Hatchery offers free photograph classes and other outdoor stuff? Check out there web page for dates at: https://ncpaws.org/reservations/pisgah/CalendarView.aspx.

Also, if you would like for your photographs to appear in my column, I would love to include them. So send me any of your great outdoor shots of fishing, wildlife and camping. With the photo credit going to you. Send it to: garywclark@bellsouth.net. Please include where and when it was shot…thanks.

Next week I will be filling in on my summer and fall fishing trips that I have planned.

Fishing report from Lake Adger

Hot weather has arrived this week, but fishing in the mornings and afternoons is still producing fish. Top water baits are the most productive during this hot spell. Jitterbugs, devil horse or buzz baits all seem to be producing. Crappie have moved a little closer to shade or structure, but once located are easy to catch. Bream fishing will remain strong all summer, but will be the best around full moon each month. Catfish will also be easy to catch; late in the day or night fishing produces the best catches. Livers and stink baits are the most popular. Good luck. Updated from Ken Haynes,&bsp; Silver Creek Campground.

Boating

The next Safe Boating Class is scheduled for July 7 from 6p.m.-9p.m. for two consecutive nights, at the Columbus Rescue Squad. Toby Jenkins will be teaching the class. His email is: toby.jenkins@ncwildlife.org. You must pre-register to attend this class. You can register at this website: http://ncpaws.org/boatingsafety/CourseRegistration.asp?txtID=21815&bsp;&bsp;&bsp; &bsp;

Fishing quote for the week:

Today she met me at the door, said I would have to choose, if I picked up that fishing rod today, shed be packing all her things and shed be gone by noon….well, Im gonna miss her when I get home tonight. ?Brad Paisly
