The Polk County Middle School Baseball team finished its season recently with a 5-0 win over Asheville Middle.
The win was their 7th in a row to finish out the season. The game itself ended in a spectacular way, ending on a 6-4-3 double play.
The Wolverines finished the season 11-5 and finished 3rd behind Macon County and Canton Middle Schools. Jeremy Fancher threw a 2 hit complete game to get the win.
Coach Ruth said, “Fancher came through in a big way at the end of the season. He was our starting catcher and when Morgan Groves went down with his injury Jeremy really helped us big with his three wins on the mound.”
In the game against Asheville Fancher only threw to 24 batters in 7 innings to get his win. Ruth also said, “Our defense played awesome today from ending the game on a double play to throwing out three stealing bases. We just played well all around.”
Helping on the offensive side was Chase McMurray going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, Jordan Smith going 2-for-2 with an RBI, JC Suddeth 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Will Ballard 1-for-1.
Coach Ruth said he is really looking forward to next year when the bulk of his team is returning.
Returning 7th graders are: Bryce Martin, Konner Scruggs, Smith, Groves, Tyler Jackson, Tyler Campbell, Mark Mazzilli, and Dequn Gary.
He also said he appreciates his eight graders for all their hard work. Eight graders are: Fancher, McMurray, Suddeth, Ballard, Zane Capozzi, Trevor Arrowood, and Wes Brady.
