Simone, Marley to perform on dedication day

Philadelphia sculptor Zenos Frudakis fine-detailing Nina Simone’s head with dark wax at Laran Foundry in Chester, Pa. Frudakiss over-life-size bronze sculpture will be dedicated on February 21 in Tryon, the singers birthplace, on what would have been Simones 77th birthday. The dedication and dove release will be at 3 p.m. at 54 South Trade St. and a concert will be held at 4 p.m. in the Polk County High School Auditorium in Columbus. Performers/presenters will include PCHS Percussion Ensemble, Daryle Ryce, Jim Peterman, Kwame Dawes, Cathy Smith Bowers, Pam Stone (MC), Simone and 2010 Grammy award winner Stephen Marley.
