Many Polk County wrestlers made quick work of their opponents on Wednesday, recording eight pins in 12 minutes of time on the mat en route to a 52-30 win at home.
The Wolverines won eight of the 14 matches against East Rutherford, and dominated the heavier weight classes to build a big lead toward the end.
JJ Maxwells pin in the second round of his match gave Polk another six points and put the Wolverines ahead to stay.
“Were in a a year where were putting in a new team,” said Polk County coach Brandon Schweitzer after the match, which lasted only about an hour. “Im really proud of our new guys, and Im really happy about the win tonight. This was a solid win for us.”
Jose Ramirez (119 pounds), Silvestre Ramirez (130 pounds), John Modlin (145 pounds), Caleb Russell (152 pounds), David Burckhalter (189 pounds), Josh Metcalf (215 pounds) and Tyler Philpott (heavyweight) won by pin for Polk.
Jose Ramirez, Burckhalter, Metcalf and Philpott each needed only one round to end their matches. In fact, Ramirez and Burckhalter picked up their pins in less than a minute, while Metcalf and Philpotts pins came just after one minute had passed.
Kameron Painter was edged 6-4 in a close match that went all three rounds. Modlin was the only other Polk wrestler to go three rounds. He ended his match at 4:59 in the third round by pin to give Polk a big boost.
