Dale J. Madden

He was born on January 5, 1916 and was the only child of the late Edward J. Madden and Margaret C. Hines Madden. His mother died at age 19, leaving her 9-month-old son in the loving care of maternal grandmother Mary McHugh Madden, with whom he lived until graduation from St. Vincent College in 1938. While serving as a high school teacher at Jeannette, Pa., high school, he earned an M.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1939 and 20 years later earned an M.A. in educational psychology from the University of Michigan.

On July 12, 1940, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise &dquo;Dee&dquo; Hamilton, and they moved to Detroit, Mich., to begin a 14-year career in commercial aviation with Capital Airlines where he became director of education and training, based in Detroit and later Washington, D.C. for Capital Airlines.

A WWII veteran, Dale served as a commissioned officer in the Pacific Theater of Operations 7th Fleet Amphibious Forces from October of 1943 until the end of WWII. He was a co-founder and CEO of Adams, Lafferty, Madden and Moody, specializing in educational programs and management development programs and seminars.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Madden and daughter-in-law Janet D. Madden and grandchildren, Terry Lee Madden and granddaughter, Jeannette Madden.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 in the auditorium of Tryon Estates, Columbus.
