Since retiring from Ingersoll Rand in 1994 and moving here, Richard had tutored math almost continuously at Polk Central and Polk High School, and at Isothermal Community College in Forest City. He loved tutoring and was saddened that he had to give it up after a stroke two years ago.

Between them, Richard and Elizabeth had eight children. They were all wonderful children who became fine adults. Richard was survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and children Paul H. Shelley, Deborah Kravic, Glenn C. Shelley and Kathryn M. Reiter; John C. Acheff, Daniel H. Acheff, Scott Maxwell, and Roberta E. Dixon. There are 15 grandchildren.

Services were held at home at the family cemetery.

He was a good, kind man; an excellent father and husband. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
