John Hanson

A native of Carrolton, Ga., he was the son of the late Oscar Walter and Beulah Estelle Dillard Hanson and husband of Estella Stone Hanson.

He retired from Southland Life Insurance Company in 1976. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church Tryon. He had served as a deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher in other churches. He was a member of the Green Creek Ruritan Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kristine Hanson of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, William &dquo;Bill&dquo; Hanson of Nashville; a niece, Joy Hanson Caldwell, and two nephews, Wallace Hill and Timothy Hanson, all of Charlotte; and several grand nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Margaret Hanson Hill, O.W. Hanson, and Leroy Hanson.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday at Petty Funeral Home in Landrum. Funeral services will follow at

1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Dr. Robert E. Lair Jr. and Dr. William Henderson. Burial will be in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Woodruff, S.C.
